Analysis: Microsoft’s Plan to Ban 360s was Poorly Planned

ps3, xbox 360, game, console

I was at GameStop the other day and listened to a customer’s questions about Microsoft’s banning of modded XBox 360s. The worker tried to explain that this banning was for those people that hacked their XBox 360. The customer was worried that if her child downloaded any kind of content through the XBox 360 that this might constitute a reason for a banning for her son’s system. She was confused, so she decided to purchase a PS3 instead. I was told by the manager at that GameStop that this was not an isolated incident. They had received over 50 calls that day about the banning.

What Microsoft appears to have forgotten by earmarking this time of year for the banning of modded XBox 360s is that most of the systems that are purchased this time of year is by parents and grandparents. The game systems that are purchased this time of year are usually done by those that do not have a firm grasp on the industry. Simply put, the systems are usually purchased by people that are fairly clueless about video games.

Crazy Free Laptops is Crazy Ripoff

I have been hearing on the radio this commercial about getting my free laptop. Now being the cynical, non-trusting individual that I am when I hear such offers I want to investigate to find out the catch. Now obviously they do not disclose during the radio commercial anything about what is required to qualify for the free laptop. This should be illegal and banned by the FCC but I am not going to hold my breath.

What happens to my Xbox 360 when its banned?

What does this mean for you and what can you do about it?
Firstly, and most obviously, you cannot connect to Xbox Live on this console any more. This means no more game updates (aka title updates), XBLA games, marketplace content, netflix/sky player and so on. There is no way around this, all online capabilities are now disabled PERMANENTLY.

Local Network File Sharing with Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

I recently upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, and while being a fantastic program, I did have one problem: I could no longer access my girlfriend’s computer in our local network and vice versa.
